Understanding Checkout Journey Events

GA4 checkout journey data is available through the Event Name dimension and Event Count metric. The checkout journey consists of four key events:

Event Name Description
begin_checkout User begins the checkout process
add_shipping_info User adds shipping information
add_payment_info User adds payment information
purchase User completes the purchase

Prerequisites

Before creating your checkout journey funnel, ensure you have:

  1. A connected Google Analytics 4 data source in your Power My Analytics hub
  2. A Looker Studio report created with your GA4 data source
  3. Checkout journey event data configured in your GA4 property (begin_checkout, add_shipping_info, add_payment_info, purchase)

  2. Give your filter a name, such as "Checkout Journey"
